The second Monday of October, celebrated in Canada by expression of gratitude for harvest and health.                                        But what is the real reason behind Thanksgiving they say that the Pilgrims and Wampanoag Tribe, in 1612 to celebrate a fall Harvest.  The Tisquantum Squanto from the Patuxent Tribe served as an interpreter and a guide for Pilgrim settlers.  Signed a Wampanoag treaty in 1621 After the colonist gave the Indians diseases.  The Pequot War in 1637 killed over 700 Indians women and Children and celebrated and made it a Thanksgiving Day of the blood victory thanking God that they had won. On Thursday, November 26, 1789, President George Washington issued a proclamation for a day of public thanksgiving and prayer. Beginning in1863, President Abraham Lincoln Declared Thanksgiving a national holiday.  700 Pequot Indians was a massacre.  This slaughter, according to Robert Jenson, a professor at the University of Texas at Austin, in 1637 by Massachusetts Bay Governor John Winthrop in gratitude for God's destruction of the defenseless Pequot village.  There after massacres of the Indians were routinely followed by days of Thanksgiving.                                There was a day of Thanksgiving kept in all churches for the victory obtained against the Pequots and for other mercies.                              The magistrates of Plymoth officially ordered such days to be kept, as 1623, and in 1637 an ordinance was passed that it be in the power of the governor and assistants to command solemn days of humiliation and also for Thanksgiving, as occasion shall be offered.
